ATI vs nVidia GPU Update

Alright so the 4870X2 came out this week! This is huge! Alright the prices on all of the other cards are doing just what I said they were going to do in my previous post (look for yourself). NVidia is going to slowly drop their cards prices to even out the price to performance ratio. As for ATI, they are just sitting back and letting all of the cash roll in. ATI is playing this out very smart. The new 4870X2 is hovering just below $600. This is the perfect sweetspot for this card. ATI will be able to keep it there until close to the holidays if they wanted to. Its not too expensive to disappoint the customers, but its expensive enough to rack in some serious cash. ATI is really naming names right now. They could have easily put this up close to $700, but they knew that in the long run they will be able to hold this price longer and have more consistent buyers. I just can’t wait to see what these things can do in crossfire!

nVidia on the other hand is going to have to drop their 280 cards. In fact im surprised they haven’t already. Why have a 280 ($450) when you can have a card twice as fast for just $100 more? I think nVidia is going to have these cards as expensive as possible until people just stop buying from them altogether. We can expect a price drop. But instead of the crazy drop like I had expected, I think it will be a slow and steady drop. They will try and squeeze every dollar they can out of the 280′s.

ATI is making very smart decisions right now and I expect them to keep it up. We will have to see how nVidia reacts to the loss of customers.

Building or Buying Your Next Computer

Posted in Random, System Building, Tips On Buying with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on August 5, 2008 by hunterx333

There has been a lot of fighting over what to do when getting a new computer. I’m here to clean this up. Now there might be a lot of questions going through your mind when making this decision. Which is more economical? Is it really worth the time and effort? How do I know I’m getting ripped off by wal mart or best buy? But really its easy once you know what you need from the computer.

The first thing you need to ask yourself is: What will I be using this computer for? This will solve the problem instantly and let me explain why. What you do on your computer will define what you need in your system. If you plan on surfing the web and email then you don’t need much to satisfy your needs. If you plan on video editing, and or gaming you probably need to go into the higher end systems. And lastly if you are what I like to call a hardcore gamer, you probably should not be reading this and have already started building your computer.

Lower End Systems :

When all you are doing is email and surfing the web go ahead to best buy or circuit city and pick up a nice looking computer off the shelf. Always look for good deals to save some money on. Most electronic stores have fair pricing on their computers. Not to mention all you have to do is plug it in and your up and running.

When shopping in this category feel free to check out any laptops they have on sale. Most of them will fit your needs technologically and they are portable.

Medium-Low End Systems:

This really is a part of the low end system category. But I know that all your music goes onto your computer nowadays, so if you are a music junkie keep your eyes out for 500+GB of hard drive space when shopping for a desktop at your local electronics store.

Medium-High End Systems:

This category is for people with big music and video playlists, and use multiple monitors when on their computers. They might do some video editing and some light gaming on the side. This category is purely choice. But note that when you buy these kinds of systems you will most likely be paying up to or over $100 more than if your were to build the same system. When shopping for these kinds of systems you might find one or two good computers to fit your needs at a best buy but you most likely will have to go online to find what you are looking for.

When shopping for these computers really consider building them. Building is not as hard as it looks. Video tutorials are all over the place and parts of the computer come with step-by-step instructions to get your computer up and running. And you never know, you might become hooked. For me computer building became a hobby and now will build any kind of system know matter the cost or time spent making them.

High End Systems:

These computers are for the extreme gamers that will most likely overclock their systems and squeeze every frame per second out of it. When buying these computers you only have one option… BUILD IT! You can buy it off of alienware or some place like that but just know that you will be paying hundreds or even up $1000 over what you could build it for.

I hope this helps when buying your next computer!

Price Cuts!!!!!

Posted in Graphics Cards, Random, Tips On Buying with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on August 4, 2008 by hunterx333

Ranting: Alright guys sorry for not posting in a while. My mobo (evga 780i) just randomly died….. PISSES ME OFF!…. Anyway has anyone noticed the huge price cuts for the 9800 cards?!?! I mean holy ****! The GX2 is hovering around $280 and the gtx is under $200. Something big must have hit nVidia financially. I mean i bought my 9800 gtx just a week before the 280 came out (mistake on my part) for $300 and now that same card is $220…. Every day these cards are dropping like crazy. By the holidays these cards will be in the $100′s. Especially if ATI keeps their lead on nVidia for price to performance.

Now i would also like to correct myself on a previous post… I said that ATI is kicking nVidia in performance. When i say that i mean single card solutions. But technically (if you have way too much money to spend) the tri sli 280′s destroy to 4870.

Recommendations: As of today if you had to build computer now i say dont. Wait for the 4870X2 and see how the price tags react. I see the 4870′s dropping a couple bucks, not much but enough to maybe get a nicer case or something. But what nVidia does could decide whether to buy from ATI or nVidia. If i were nVidia i would be preparing for a major hit financially. With the upcoming release of the 4870X2 people are sure to drop any old cards and pick it up. They shoiuld lower their prices on the 280 so that if you were to buy two of them it would be just a bit more expensive then one X2. This is because in a benchmark test between two 4870′s and two 280′s the 280′s would have a slight edge over ATI’s gift from heaven. But for nVidia this would mean lowering the price of the 280 to nearly $300. And im not sure if their manufacturers could manage such a large price drop in such a short amount of time.

Anyway i will be posting some vids soon about my computer parts and of the rebuild i have to do when i receive my new 780i. Feel free to comment on the fight between ATI and nVidia. It will be interesting to see where we are by the holidays…

Consoles at E3

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , on July 21, 2008 by hunterx333

At E3 this year many console news was released. Each console released some information about the upcoming year.
Nintendo released some upcoming games including grand theft auto: chinatown wars, animal crossing: city folk, and wii sports: resort.  Not much else  other then a new attachment that allows for even more precision out of the wii remote.
Microsoft’s big release was that all xbox 360 owners will have access to netflix through their xbox 360′s. This is kind of disappointing to me though. If their biggest thing to release is movies then i need to get another console. There are not too many games (or at least good ones) that i I am looking forward to.
Sony’s playstation 3 is the new best console in my opinion. With a line of great new games coming out out in the next year and the support of blu-ray on their system, the PS3 is the next big console.
